Sheik
A whisper of speed, a needle's edge, and the lowest profile in the arena.
Sheik is a sleek, low-profile fighter in the Super Smash Bros. franchise, drawn from The Legend of Zelda series. Known for her razor-fast movement, minimal hitbox, and lethal needled attacks, Sheik occupies a unique niche as one of the most technically demanding characters on the roster. Her design emphasizes speed, precision, and the ability to control space from a crouched, almost invisible stance.

Lore & Background
Sheik moves through the world like a shadow given purpose. Whether she is Zelda wearing a mask to walk among commoners without recognition, or a separate enigmatic entity guiding lost souls through a spiraling world, the Sheik identity is defined by concealment and precision. The mask, the flowing dark garments, the needle at the hip—every element speaks to a warrior who strikes before being seen.
In the Smash Bros. arena, Sheik's lore translates into mechanical identity. She is the character you must commit to: her low profile makes her nearly impossible to hit at close range, but her recovery is a single, finite forward-upward boost that leaves her vulnerable if mistimed. She demands that a player think in dashes, in quick jabs, in the geometry of needles arcing through the air. She is not a brawler; she is a duelist who wins by being where you least expect her.
Fans often pair Sheik with the broader Zelda narrative, noting the duality of the princess and the masked wanderer. In the games, they are separate fighters, yet the connection lingers. Sheik's presence in the Smash roster is a tribute to that duality—the gentle ruler and the swift, masked blade who protects from the margins.
In Their Own Story
The arena hums with the low thrum of a thousand spectators. The lights dim to a cold blue, and from the far edge of the stage, a figure crouches so low she is barely a silhouette against the polished floor. A needle glints at her hip, catching the light just once.
Across the stage, an opponent charges forward, heavy and loud. Sheik does not flinch. She slides—barely a shuffle—just enough to let the charge pass over her head. The needle leaves her hand in a flat, silent arc. It connects before the opponent even registers the movement.
The crowd roars. Sheik is already moving again, crouched, patient, waiting for the next breath to take.

SHEIK — FIGHTER DOSSIER
Source Franchise: The Legend of Zelda (Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask) Unlock Method: In most Smash titles, Sheik is unlocked by playing a set number of matches or defeating a specific CPU opponent. In Ultimate, she is available from the start of the roster.
NEUTRALS - Neutral Attack: A rapid jab that comes out almost instantly. Low damage but excellent for spacing and interrupting. - Forward Tilt: A quick forward kick, slightly longer reach than the jab. - Up Tilt: An upward kick useful for poking above opponents. - Down Tilt: A low forward sweep/kick that hits at a very low angle, great against crouching opponents.
SMASHES - Forward Smash: A powerful forward kick with strong knockback. Slower than her tilts but hits hard. - Up Smash: An upward kick that can pop opponents off the ground. - Down Smash: A low forward sweep with a wide hitbox at ground level.
AERIALS - Neutral Aerial: A quick spinning kick. - Forward Aerial: A strong forward kick with good knockback, one of her most reliable aerial damage moves. - Up Aerial: An upward kick for anti-air or popping opponents. - Down Aerial: A fast, low-profile spinning kick that can hit below her hitbox.
GRABS & THROWS - Grab: Very fast grab with a short range. - Forward Throw: A quick forward toss. - Back Throw: A back toss with moderate knockback. - Up Throw: An upward throw that can pop opponents. - Down Throw: A downward slam.
SPECIAL MOVES - Side Special (B): Sheik throws a needle in a flat, fast arc. The needle travels a moderate distance and deals low damage but has strong knockback on hit. It is her primary projectile and spacing tool. - Up Special (Up + B): Sheik performs a forward-upward boost, propelling herself diagonally forward and upward. This is her ONLY recovery and is finite—once used, she cannot recover again until she lands. This makes her extremely vulnerable at high percentages and near the blast line. - Down Special (Down + B): Sheik dashes forward in a low, fast slide. Useful for approaching, dodging, or repositioning quickly.
ALTERNATE COSTUMES Sheik typically has multiple alternate palettes ranging from her default dark blue/black scheme to lighter tones, reds, purples, and a white/gold variant. Each palette shifts the color of her tunic, mask, and needle accents.
UNIQUE MECHANICS & COMBO NOTES - Lowest hitbox in the game: Sheik's crouched profile is the smallest on the roster, making her extremely difficult to hit with standard attacks. - Finite recovery: Her up special is a one-time forward-upward boost. She cannot recover a second time, making her highly punishable if she misses or uses it at the wrong moment. - Speed: Tied with Falco for the fastest run speed in the series, Sheik covers ground quickly and can reposition faster than most fighters. - Combo potential: Her fast jab, quick tilts, and low down tilt chain well into aerials and throws, making her a strong combo starter at low to mid percentages. - Punishability: Because of her single recovery, Sheik is one of the most punishable characters at high percentages. Players must manage her recovery carefully to avoid being knocked off-stage.
Did You Know?
- Sheik is tied with Falco for the fastest run speed in the entire Smash Bros. series, making her one of the quickest characters to cross the stage.
- Sheik's hitbox is the lowest and smallest on the roster, meaning many attacks that would connect with other fighters simply pass over her crouched form.
- In the original Zelda games, the Sheik identity is a disguise worn by Princess Zelda, yet in Smash Bros. she is treated as a completely separate fighter with her own moveset and story presence.
- Sheik's up special is her only form of recovery, and it is a single forward-upward boost—meaning if she uses it and misses the stage, she cannot recover a second time, making her one of the most vulnerable characters at
