Jigglypuff
The tiniest fighter in the arena, singing lullabies while landing the hardest slaps.
Jigglypuff is a round, pink, balloon-like Pokémon from the first generation of the Pokémon franchise, instantly recognizable by its enormous blue eyes, tiny pointed ears, and stubby limbs. In the Super Smash Bros. series it serves as a quintessential trickster fighter: deceptively small and fragile-looking, yet packed with surprising speed, mobility, and a moveset built around quick, low-commitment attacks that reward precise timing over raw power.
Across every mainline Smash title, Jigglypuff has been a fan-favorite underdog. Its identity revolves around the idea that the smallest creature in the arena can still land a devastating hit if you strike at the right moment, making it a character that rewards creativity, spacing, and nerve over brute force.

Lore & Background
In the Pokémon world, Jigglypuff is a small, docile creature that lives in grassy meadows and forest clearings. It is best known for its soothing song, which can lull entire audiences into deep sleep—a trait that has made it a beloved performer in the Pokémon world, though its concerts have a reputation for being a little too effective. Despite its gentle disposition, Jigglypuff is not without defensive instincts; it will puff up its round body and deliver quick, surprising slaps to anyone who gets too close.
In the Super Smash Bros. universe, Jigglypuff takes its role as a small, quick, and deceptively dangerous combatant to heart. It moves with a bouncy, almost gossamer lightness, drifting through the air with a unique floating recovery that lets it extend its reach and escape dangerous positions. Its fighting style is all about spacing and timing: a flurry of rapid, low-damage slaps that build up, a ground-pound shockwave that catches opponents off guard, and the ever-present threat of Rest, where it curls into a ball and heals over time—vulnerable, yes, but a risk that can turn a losing match on its head.
Fans adore Jigglypuff precisely because it defies expectations. It is the character you expect to be the easiest to knock off the stage, yet in skilled hands it becomes a relentless, unpredictable presence that punishes overcommitment and punishes greed.
In Their Own Story
The arena lights dim to a soft amber. Somewhere in the crowd, a muffled cheer fades. On the edge of the Battlefield stage, a tiny pink shape bobs gently in the air, its enormous eyes half-closed, a faint melodic hum drifting from its small mouth. It drifts lower, lower, until its stubby feet just barely brush the platform. A rival fighter, confident and heavy, charges in with a full-commitment smash.
Jigglypuff's eyes snap open. In the fraction of a second before the heavy blow connects, it sidesteps with a quick, bouncy hop, then slaps the ground with both palms. A ripple of force skitters across the platform. The heavy fighter stumbles, just enough. Jigglypuff is already airborne again, floating upward with that peculiar, weightless drift, and from above it delivers a rapid double-slap that sends its opponent tumbling toward the blast zone.
It lands softly, puffs up just slightly, and resumes its little song. The crowd, confused and delighted, erupts.
Reader's Guide
Name: Jigglypuff Source Franchise: Pokémon Unlock Method: Present in all mainline Super Smash Bros. titles. In the original N64 game and subsequent entries it was an unlockable character (typically via Classic Mode or a set number of matches). In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate it is available in the initial roster.
Moveset Breakdown:
Neutrals: Jigglypuff's neutral attack is a quick, short-range jab. It is fast to come out and fast to recover, making it ideal for spacing and edge-guarding but low in raw damage. Its neutral aerial is a similarly quick slap that can be used for approach or to punish slow aerials.
Specials: Side special is Rest—Jigglypuff curls into a ball, closes its eyes, and sleeps for several seconds, gradually recovering HP. While sleeping it is highly vulnerable to attacks and knockback, making it a high-risk, high-reward healing tool. Up special is Double Slap, a short upward hop with two quick slaps that provides modest vertical recovery. Down special is Pound, where it slaps the ground to create a small forward shockwave that can trip or lightly damage opponents at close range.
Aerials: All of Jigglypuff's directional aerials (forward, back, up, down) are quick, low-damage slaps. They are extremely fast to execute and recover, making them useful for mix-ups, edge-guarding, and building small combos, but they lack the knockback of a dedicated aerial attack.
Smashes: Forward, up, and down smashes are all quick punches with modest damage. They reward precise timing and are best used when an opponent is already in a vulnerable state or at close range.
Grabs: Jigglypuff's grab is fast and can lead into quick slams, but its low weight means it can be punished if the grab whiffs.
Alternate Costumes: Jigglypuff features several alternate palettes across the series, including variations in pink shade, a cream/white variant, and a darker rosy tone.
Unique Mechanics: Jigglypuff possesses a distinctive aerial float recovery—after certain aerials or while in the air, it can hover briefly, extending its recovery range and allowing it to drift back toward the stage in a way no other character can. It is also one of the lightest characters in the roster, making it extremely mobile and easy to juggle, but also very susceptible to knockback. Its Rest move is one of the very few in the series that actively restores HP, adding a layer of resource management to its playstyle.
