Corrin
A child of the future, armed with a lance and a grip that never lets go.
Corrin is a gender-neutral playable fighter who debuted as downloadable content in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS in 2014, arriving in the Smash roster a full two years before their own title, Fire Emblem: Fates, hit shelves. Wielding a sleek silver lance and dressed in a layered outfit of deep blues and golds, Corrin brings a fast, aggressive playstyle built around close-range pressure and a signature grab-throw mechanic that sets them apart from every other lance-wielder in the game.

Lore & Background
Corrin is the child of Marth, the legendary hero of the first Fire Emblem, born in a distant future and sent back through time to the era of the three warring kingdoms of Hoshido, Nohr, and Garreg Mach. Their arrival is not a simple homecoming; it is a tactical intervention, a thread pulled from the loom of history to prevent a catastrophe that will otherwise consume the continent. Corrin's very existence is a paradox wrapped in steel, a future heir forced to choose a side in a conflict their parent once helped to resolve.
In Their Own Story
The training ground hums with the low thrum of charged energy. Corrin stands at the far edge, lance tip dragging a thin line of sparks across the platform. Across the arena, an opponent circles, waiting. Corrin's eyes—steady, almost too calm for someone who has walked through two timelines—lock onto the target. A quick sidestep, a feint, and then the lance extends with a sharp *clack* that echoes off the invisible walls of the stage. The opponent is caught, mid-air, impaled not by steel but by the lance's grip. Corrin twists their wrist. The throw is short, brutal, and over in a heartbeat. They lower the weapon, exhale, and walk back to their corner as though they have done this ten thousand times before. They have. In another timeline, they have.
Reader's Guide
NAME: Corrin SOURCE FRANCHISE: Fire Emblem: Fates UNLOCK METHOD: Downloadable content (DLC) in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U / 3DS; available in the roster of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
NEUTRAL ATTACK: A rapid sequence of lance jabs followed by a horizontal slash, ending with a short forward lunge. The combo is fast and covers a tight radius, making it ideal for corner pressure and punishing whiffed attacks.
SIDE SPECIAL – Lance Charge: Corrin dashes forward with the lance extended, dealing damage to anything in the path. The move has good range and can be used as a semi-recovery tool if angled toward the stage, though it leaves Corrin vulnerable on landing.
UP SPECIAL – Lance Jump: A strong upward boost using the lance as a pivot. Corrin gains significant height and can chain into aerials, making it a reliable recovery option. The move has a brief wind-up, so timing is key.
DOWN SPECIAL – Lance Grab: Corrin's signature mechanic. They extend the lance to catch an opponent in range, holding them briefly before the player chooses a throw direction (forward, backward, upward, or downward). The grab has a generous range and can be used to reposition opponents, set up combos, or escape tight corners. The throw damage scales with the opponent's percentage, making it a late-game threat.
FORWARD AIR: A downward diagonal slash with the lance. Decent range and good for edge-guarding or hitting opponents who jump in.
BACK AIR: A whirling backswing that covers a wide arc behind Corrin. Useful for escaping grabs or hitting opponents who try to approach from behind.
UP AIR: A rising lance thrust. Modest damage but solid knockback, good for escaping downward pressure.
NEUTRAL AIR: A quick spinning attack with the lance. Fast startup, low damage, but excellent for interrupting and maintaining aerial pressure.
FORWARD SMASH: A powerful, extended lance thrust that travels a long distance. High damage and knockback, but slow startup and recovery make it risky in the open.
BACK SMASH: A wide sweeping arc with the lance. Covers a large area behind Corrin and can hit multiple opponents. Good for crowd control.
UP SMASH: An upward slashing motion. Decent range above Corrin's head, useful for hitting opponents who jump over them.
GRAB: A standard grab with a short range. Corrin's grab is quick but not exceptionally strong; the real grab threat comes from the Lance Grab down special.
DASH ATTACK: A forward lunging slash. Fast and effective for approaching, but leaves Corrin open if whiffed.
ALTERNATE COSTUMES: Multiple palettes ranging from cooler blue-and-silver tones to warmer gold-and-crimson schemes, reflecting Corrin's gender-neutral design. Some palettes emphasize a more masculine silhouette, others a more feminine one, and several sit comfortably in between. Accessories like the headband and boot style shift subtly between options.
UNIQUE MECHANICS & QUIRKS: The Lance Grab down special is Corrin's defining trait. It functions as both a grab and a throw, giving Corrin a tool no other fighter has. This makes Corrin exceptionally strong at controlling space, repositioning opponents, and creating combo opportunities out of nowhere. Recovery is handled by the Lance Jump, which is reliable but not the longest in the game. Corrin's overall playstyle rewards aggressive, close-range play with a mix of fast neutrals and the grab-throw loop, making them a punishing opponent in the hands of an experienced player.
